Introduction

One of the other Secretary Candidates this year is Marija Radulovic, from Year 10! She has been an active member in the student council for the last two years.

In her campaign, she discusses how she wants the voices of more students to be heard, and how she aims to make it happen through surveys and interviews with those not in the student council. She also hopes to make the school into a safe place, rather than just one for learning. Additionally, she would like to hold the future President and Vice President to their promises in their own campaigns.

Now, onto the interview!

For interviewing the candidates, we decided to go with the same questions for all of them, as it would work best to give you, the reader, an accurate idea as to how each candidate will strive towards.

What inspired you to be a candidate for Secretary?

Something that inspired me to become a candidate for secretary, is my own experience with the school, the student council, and seeing how things have been for quite some time. I’ve seen room for improvement in almost every case, but never really felt truly important enough to bring it up. But now, if I do become secretary, I hope to give high quality feedback, and allow others to feel as if they have the same power.

Is there something specific you would like to promise except following your responsibility?

Something I promise to the students, rather than just following my obligations, is to connect with them more as someone on the student council, and help their ideas make their way into meetings, and later on into actual projects we will do.

Is it stressful to participate in Student Council elections?

Yes, it is stressful, really. Scripting the video, filming hundreds of retakes of the same scene, to editing, submission, and waiting for the result put me in a form of constant worry, but also hope for the future.

Are you looking forward to election day and results?

Of course, I do look forward to it. For me, it’s not just the excitement of winning and seeing my name in the email, but rather seeing our peers come together in choosing who they trust the most out of given candidates. I hope to win, obviously, but would still be happy if the other candidate got the position.

What goals do you have as secretary candidate?

My goals as secretary would be helping make our school a safer space, making sure meetings go as planned and allow everyone to express themselves, as well as connecting students and the student council even more, either directly, or through me.

Why should people specifically vote for you?

I do think that people should vote for me, not because I just want to win and see my name on an official email, but because I have actual experience with the student council, with the school, and I saw how everything worked for years. I know my way around in these situations, how to avoid misunderstandings, and am connected to students from all year groups. I mostly know their worries, wants, and needs, and I believe it is my responsibility to make it happen.

Remember to be respectful, and thank you to all candidates and voters!
