Introduction

One of the presidential candidates this year is Year 13’s Elizaveta Semenenko. She has been in the student council as well, and last year, she was in the Environmental Committee.

In her campaign video, she says that she wants to become Student Council President because she wants to make ideas happen. As someone who has been at the school for many years, she knows what students want. If she is elected president, she will help organise more sports events, more celebrations, more activities, and more dress up days. She also wants to encourage the engagement of those from outside of student council, by having students share their ideas, the council discusses them, and attempts to make them a reality. She promises to take every idea seriously, and listen to them.

Now, onto the interview!

For interviewing the candidates, we decided to go with the same questions for all of them, as it would work best to give you, the reader, an accurate idea as to how each candidate will strive towards.

What inspired you to be a candidate for President?

I really want to make everyday life in school more enjoyable, by adding fun events, and to give them more opportunities for developing their talents.

Is there something specific you would like to promise except following your responsibility?

I would like to promise that I will listen to every idea, concern or suggestion from our students and try my best to make them happen.

Is it stressful to participate in Student Council elections?

Yes, a little bit but mostly exciting. It can be stressful because you are nervous about speaking in front of a lot of people or while waiting for the results. However if you stay positive and stay focused on sharing your ideas, rather than winning, the experience is much more enjoyable and exciting.

Are you looking forward to election day and results?

I am definitely looking forward to election day as people are going to share their ideas and everyone can take part in choosing their representatives. Of course waiting for the results can be a little nervous, but the important part is that everyone has an opportunity for their voice to be heard.

What goals do you have as a Presidential candidate?

As a president my goal is to add more activities throughout the year, for students to have more fun, be able to show their talents and most importantly be heard.

Why should people specifically vote for you?

First of all, I am a student in this school who wants to make this school year memorable, meaningful, and full of opportunities for everyone to share their talents. I have been at this school for four years and have actively participated in different clubs and activities, so I understand how things work and what is needed to make ideas happen. I know that it can sometimes be difficult to share your ideas, and I want to make this process easier. I want students to know that they can always count on the Student Council to listen to them, support their ideas, and help turn them into reality.

Remember to be respectful, and thank you to all candidates and voters!
