A team of teachers have been planning for weeks, before the international week began on 19th of October this year.

The first step, however, is not organising but agreeing what the week is intended to mean. As, Ms. Hidiye said: “It’s not just organising – it should have a clear message and meaning”.

The international week is a week of celebrating the cultural diversity in our school community. That matters at KSIM where the school community includes more than 30 nationalities.

According to one of the interviewed, teachers, approximately 7-8 of them and staff members from different nationalities and cultural backgrounds work on making the international week happen. Except for nationalities, the departments of teachers and year groups they teach are different in order to adapt the international week for everyone. Ms. Hidiye said that: “We want to give everyone to take part and contribute.”

Without a doubt, diversity of people from different nationalities in the KSIM is a strength. But, it also brings many different ideas and expectations that were found particularly challenging to put into one place, as organisators believe.

Everything during the international week has to run flawlessly, Ms. Hidiye said. Students can not see most of the effort that has been put in the organisation of international week.

Finally, a big thank you to the teachers and staff who organised International Week! Most of their work happened behind the scenes, long before the week began, and it made the whole week possible.
