As part of the final project for the PYP unit \u201cHow We Express Ourselves,\u201d<\/em> Grade 6 students created artistic works inspired by important social issues and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Among the most notable projects was an original song and dance performance<\/strong> addressing the growing problem of children using mobile phones from an increasingly young age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students explained that their inspiration came from personal experience\u2014many young children, including themselves, receive phones early and quickly become used to having them with them at all times. Through their artistic piece, they aimed to raise awareness about how excessive screen time affects children’s health, habits, and daily lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their message strongly connected to SDG 7 \u2013 Good Health and Well-Being. They highlighted that children often don\u2019t realize how spending too many hours on their devices can weaken focus, disturb sleep, and affect social relationships. In the chorus of their song, they symbolically showed how the \u201cbrain starts to rot\u201d when someone is too attached to their screen, missing calls, events, and real-life interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the Learning Celebration, which gathered students, and teachers from the school, their project drew a lot of attention. While some students created drawings or clay sculptures, this team chose a music and dance performance, making their message even more impactful. Visitors enthusiastically explored the stands, and many praised the creativity and maturity behind the students\u2019 message.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The students expressed hope that their work would inspire their peers to reflect on their own habits and serve as a reminder to spend less time on devices and more time playing and socializing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
