KSIM Book Week is always an exciting time for book lovers! This week was filled with activities that brought stories to life in many ways. One of the highlights was the Favourite Character Parade & Dress Up. Students and teachers embraced the theme by dressing up as beloved characters from their favourite books. From wizards to animals, the parade was a great showcase of creativity and imagination. Then the week continued with DEAR reading times and bookmark competitions. We all enjoyed this celebration. 📚
A Celebration of Stories, Creativity, and Community
This year’s Book Week was a joyful celebration of reading, imagination, and literary fun that brought energy and excitement to every corner of the school. From the youngest readers in Nursery to the older students in Year 11, everyone got involved in a week full of engaging activities, guest author visits, and colourful creativity.
Epic Reading Challenge
Throughout the week, students enthusiastically took part in the Epic Reading Challenge, snapping photos of themselves reading in the most unusual places and imaginative poses. From treehouses to trampolines, the entries were both hilarious and heartwarming. Each submission earned house points, and PYP students were even encouraged to include it in their reading homework. The creativity shown was incredible!
DEAR – Drop Everything And Read
On Day 1 during Period 2, the whole school paused to celebrate DEAR – Drop Everything And Read. For 15 peaceful minutes, classrooms were filled with the quiet hum of turning pages as students and teachers alike dove into their favorite books. It was a powerful reminder of how special those quiet moments with a good book can be.
Guest Authors Inspire and Excite
We were honored to welcome a fantastic group of guest authors who inspired students with their stories, poems, and experiences:
- Dragan Todorović shared his poetry and insights with students from Nursery to Year 9.
- Peter Robert gave a compelling presentation to Years 9 & 10.
- Paul Brailsford engaged Years 10 & 11 with his unique storytelling style.
- Maryam Khalifah captivated Years 7 & 8 with her presentation, sparking lots of thoughtful questions and discussion.
Each session was full of enthusiasm, and students left feeling inspired and eager to explore more literature.
Door Decoration Contest & Classroom Masks
The Door Decoration Contest brought a burst of color and creativity to the school hallways. Homerooms transformed their doors into tributes to beloved authors and illustrators, showcasing students’ artistic talents and teamwork. The results were stunning! From vibrant drawings to 3D elements, the doors were truly a sight to see—and the amazing classroom masks made everything even more magical!
Book Swap and the Joy of Sharing Stories
Beginning March 24th, students and parents dropped off gently used books for the Book Swap. In return, they received coupons to pick out new-to-them books on Friday. The event promoted sustainability and the joy of sharing stories, and students loved browsing the collection to find their next great read.
Bookmark Competition Winners
One of the most anticipated events of Book Week was the Bookmark Design Competition, and this year’s winners wowed the judges with their originality and design:
- Lower PYP Winner: Petar Gubernić (Year 1)
- Upper PYP Winner: Sonia Baimuratova (Year 4)
