Year 12 students had a camping tour with their teachers.

Ms. Anniek informed us more about this exciting tour:

Thursday morning, half of the year 12 class got on the bus to head to Bartula, My Olive Garden campsite. They took with them, teachers, Ms. Alex and Ms. Anniek,  and outdoor and game experts, Mr. Clement and Mr. Geoff, along with quite a bit of gear consisting of tents, sleeping bags, mats, and cooking gear.

Although the sun was still present when they arrived, clouds started drifting in while everyone was pitching their tents between olive trees, and as soon the first activity was underway, the sky seemed to split in half and water poured down with significant force. Luckily they could all find cover in the camp outdoor dining area, but it turned out not all tents would provide enough cover during the night. On the upside, the group found out now which tents needed replacement.

The rain stopped, the games resumed and the competition was fierce.

The evening program consisted of inventive cooking on camp stoves, and it must be acknowledged, the students’ meals looked quite a bit better than the teachers’. The pop quiz after dinner proved our students’ combined knowledge is quite formidable, since they were able to answer questions on topics ranging from pop culture, to geography, to their DP teachers and politics.

Day 2 arrived. Luckily, despite the large group of Dutch cyclists that had arrived the evening before, everyone had slept well and was ready to go. They packed up camp and onwards it was, hiking a beautiful trail, to Stari Bar, a town with lots of character and much needed coffee.

After a beautiful lunch of vegetable and meat platters, everyone got back on the bus and headed back home.

A huge thanks goes to the students for making this a successful trip. Their resilience, optimism and creativity were truly inspiring.
